Plans, directs and supervises a variety of special and continuing operational and maintenance assignments in managing the County fair, fairgrounds, horse racing and facilities; does related work as required. An employee in this class is responsible for all activities and functions involved in managing the County fairgrounds including public relations, advertising, budget, promotions and scheduling events. Work reviews are based primarily on the assessment and accomplishment of established annual goals.
Requires thorough knowledge of fairgrounds usage, events and capabilities; planning and requirements of running a fair. Requires considerable knowledge of advertising and public relations; budgeting and recordkeeping; and principles of supervision and personnel practices. Must possess the ability to: maximize usage of fairgrounds facilities by effectively scheduling events; organize and direct work schedules to meet deadlines; plan and supervise the work of others; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; deal courteously and tactfully with the general public; exercise initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, business organizations, Fair Board and the general public.
Bachelors degree in business administration, management, marketing or related field and three years progressively responsible experience in fair management; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.
Must pass a background investigation, including criminal background check. Conviction of a crime will not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification.
