Drunk Driving & Seat Belt Grants Awarded
Sheriff's Office Receives $7,000 for Traffic Enforcement Overtime Hours
Josephine County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded two traffic safety grants from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association (OSSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The grant money will be used by the Sheriff’s Office for DUII and Seatbelt Enforcement. The combined amounts of these grants are $7,000.00 which is used for reimbursement of actual deputy overtime expenses.
The first part of the traffic safety campaign for DUII’s begins on the Thanksgiving Holiday. This grant provides additional resources to supplement the existing enforcement activities to ticket and/or arrest unsafe drivers and decrease death and injury related to DUII motor vehicle accidents and non-compliance with seat belt laws. Last years grant successfully took 3 drunk drivers off the road, with 40 hours of overtime and we had 203 seatbelt contacts with 96 hours of overtime.
“Remember, if you drink don’t drive and wear your seat belt, it’s a proven fact it saves lives.”
