Grants Pass, OR — May 9th at 3:45 a.m., Micki Rae Broeske contacted the Sheriff’s Office and reported that she was armed with a handgun at her sister’s residence at 750 Sleepy Hollow Loop.
Deputies were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 3:54 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies were able to evacuate Broeske’s sister and brother-in-law from the area and began negotiations with Broeske that lasted for about two hours.
Deputies visually confirmed that Broeske did have a hand gun. She refused to disarm herself and broke off communications at several points during the standoff.
At about 6:19 a.m., Broeske pointed her gun at deputies who fired their service weapons in self-defense. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by American Medical Response (AMR).
In accordance with existing law enforcement agreements and state law, the District Attorney’s Office designated Oregon State Police (OSP) as the lead investigative agency in the investigation. The District Attorney’s Office and OSP will issue any further information or comments pertaining to this incident.
