Thursday, June 16, 2011

Case #: 2011-5453
Incident Location: Upstream of Chinook Park on the Rogue River

Robert Allen Grevious Jr. 10/14/1984

Grants Pass, OR — At about 5:20 p.m. yesterday, multiple callers notified the Sheriff’s Office of a male subject who had gone under while attempting to swim across the Rogue River, just upstream from Chinook Park.

The subject, Robert Allen Grevious Jr. of Crescent City, California, attempted to swim across the river with two other subjects, both juveniles.

The two juveniles made it to the other bank and reportedly saw that Grevious was struggling. They told him to turn around and go back. At that point, Grevious went under again and the juveniles saw him come up once more before disappearing.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched immediately upon report and two citizens who were at Chinook Park initiated a search for Grevious in the water.

Rural Metro, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and Josephine County Search and Rescue also responded to search for Grevious.

The Search and Rescue dive team searched for Grevious last night and continues their search this morning in the Chinook Park area.

The Sheriff’s Office advises that citizens exercise extreme caution when swimming in the river, always ensuring to wear a safety vest and to carry a sound emitting device, such as a whistle, that may be used to summon assistance. Always let friends and family know where you are headed and never go out alone.
