Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Case Number: 2011-5925
Incident Location: Redwood Highway (199), MP 22

Selma, OR — Yesterday, at 3:46 p.m., a Sheriff’s deputy en route to a reported overdose in the 24,000 block of Redwood Highway hit a tree and crashed near milepost 22 on Redwood Highway.

The deputy’s vehicle sustained serious damage, but the deputy’s injuries were minor. He was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Deputy Jim Geiger, a Sheriff’s Office traffic reconstructionist, will be assessing the scene and determining the cause of the accident. A diesel oil spill near the site of the accident, in the southbound lane, and the freshly rained on asphalt may have been contributing factors.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Oregon State Police and Josephine County Public Works for assisting Sheriff’s deputies with rapid response and setting up a perimeter around the accident for citizen safety.

Further details regarding the cause of the accident will be issued in a subsequent release.
