Case Number: 2011-5963
Sunny Valley, OR — June 29th, at 6:16 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies found 32-year-old Jerome Cronin deceased after having hung himself from a tree in the 3400 block of Placer Rd.
The Sheriff’s Office had received two previous reports regarding Cronin’s mental state and possible intent to harm himself.
June 28th, at about 9:00 p.m., deputies contacted Cronin for a welfare check requested by family. At that time, he was admittedly depressed but said he did not plan to harm himself.
June 29th, at 3:22 a.m., deputies attempted to make contact with Cronin again when a friend reported Cronin had left his residence with a large knife in hand. At 3:43 a.m., deputies saw Cronin in the distance and attempted to offer him assistance via public address system, but he fled. He was reported as being safe with family again at 3:46 p.m.
June 29th, at about 6:00 p.m., deputies responded again after receiving a report of a disturbance between Cronin and his 35-year-old brother Regiland Christopher Cronin, who was attempting to seek professional mental help for Jerome.
Jerome had used a knife to cut Regiland, who sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.
At that time, Jerome fled out back to the site of his suicide, where deputies attempted to make verbal contact without success.
