It's the Climate

Josephine County is known for its year-round great weather and recreation. The Rogue River, the Applegate and the Illinois Rivers provide great rafting and fishing opportunities. A Rogue River rafting trip or Hellgate Excursions jet boat ride is an unforgettable experience. Whether you are an avid fan of rafting, hiking,cycling, fishing, jet boating,or relaxing you will find plenty of ways to enjoy recreation in Josephine County.
Many Josephine County Parks are located on the Rogue River; these parks provide camping, and many great activities. Lake Selmac, and Indian Mary Park, are two popular parks that are always revisited. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to Grants Pass for the rafting, fishing and jet boating, while others enjoy the quaint history, breweries, wineries and restaurants.
Historic downtown Grants Pass offers art galleries, great restaurants and shopping. Visiting the Josephine County Historical Society is a great way to learn about local history. The Kerbyville Museum, is located in Kerby, can be an interesting museum stop on the way to the Oregon Coast, which is approximately two hours away.
Residents and visitors alike look forward to the yearly Josephine County Fair that is held in August. The Fair celebrated its 100th year in 2014 and keeps bringing in the crowds. It’s a great old fashioned family fair time!
Airplane enthusiasts enjoy Grants Pass Airport Days, held in September that includes a fly in, barbeque, airport open house and much more. The Historic Siskiyou Smokejumper Base is located at the Illinois Valley Airport, about four miles south of Cave Junction.
Other outdoor attractions include the Hellgate Canyon-Rogue River, Kalmiopsis Wilderness, Oregon Caves National Monument, and Wildlife Images.
There is always something to discover in Josephine County, while traveling north on Interstate 5, attractions include: The Sunny Valley Bridge, Applegate Trail Interpretive Center, Golden State Historic Sight, The Wolf Creek Inn and Pottsville, a pioneer town with historic outdoor exhibits.
