In Community Corrections' commitment to offender rehabilitation and reformation, the Department has chosen to develop an in-house treatment agency. The Department has hired, trained, and provides on-going education to substance abuse treatment counselors as well as cognitive restructuring program facilitators.
Having such counselors and facilitators within the same department and most importantly within the same building is absolutely vital to reducing recidivism, correcting violation behavior, and addressing substance abuse and criminal thinking errors. Officers, counselors, and facilitators converse and "triage" offenders/clients several times a week and discuss progress, participation, and compliance. Violations of treatment rules/regulations may result in an intervention (e.g., verbal reprimand) or a sanction (e.g., work crew) and possible requirement to start the treatment program again from inception.
