How to record a document:

E-Recording Services:     Josephine County Clerk's Office offers electronic recording (eRecording). This service allows you to record your documents faster and more efficiently than if documnets are mailed. Documents must be submitted via a third party vendor. Basic Recording Standards:


Your document must:


  • Be on paper no larger than 8 ½ X 14
  • Have a font no smaller than 8 point.
  • Be on paper heavy enough not to allow bleed-through from the back side when copied.
  • Have a blank space in the upper right corner of the first page at least 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall to accommodate our recording sticker. If this space is not provided, an extra page must be added to your document at a charge of $5.00.


The first page of your document must contain:


  • The name(s) of the transaction(s)
  • The name(s) of the grantor(s) and grantee(s)
  • The name and address to whom the document is to be returned.
  • The true and actual consideration paid for the transfer (instruments conveying title).
  • Tax statement information (instruments conveying title).
  • Information required for the County Clerk Lien Record including the name of the claimant, name of the debtor, amount of the lien.
  • Name & address of Assignee (Assignment of Trust Deed & Assignment of Mortgage).

If your document lacks any of the above items, a $20.00 non-standard fee will be added to the recording fee. (ORS 205.327)



Legal Description Requirements:

  • Metes and Bounds
  • Lot and Block Subdivision
  • Partition Plat and Parcel Number

       Tax Lot numbers are not sufficient for use as a legal description. (ORS 93.600)


 Recording Fees:


  • All fees must be paid at the time of recording.
  • Payment Options: Cash, Check or Money Order (Payable to Josephine County Clerk)
  • In person only:  VISA, MasterCard and Discover (third party convenience fee applies)
